Ethylene Production in Lilium Oriental Hybrid ¢¥Casa Blanca¢¥ Florets during the Vase Life

Abstract
Postharvest senescence of Lilium Oriental Hybrid ¢¥Casa Blanca¢¥ florets was investigated. Changes in fresh weight of the florets originated from the different location of inflorescence decreased in similar pattern except that the uppermost florets (4th floret) maintained higher than other florets. Vase life of the florets was not affected by location of the inflorescence. Ethylene production of the florets increased steeply from the 5th day after flowering, which corresponded with loss of vase life. Ethylene production of stamen and pistil is higher than tepals. Both ACC and STS affected changes in fresh weight of the florets, while STS pretreatment significantly prolonged the vase life.
